Youngstown, OH – WKBN-TV is excited to announce Paul Wetzl as WKBN’s chief meteorologist. Paul, who has been with the station for more than 15 years, will deliver local weather weeknights on WKBN 27 First News at 5PM, 6PM and 11PM
“Paul’s passion for weather is a driving force behind WKBN’s goal of providing the most accurate forecast for the neighborhoods where our viewers live” said WKBN-TV News Director Mitch Davis. “As a local guy, Paul knows this area and his knowledge of weather is second to none. It’s important as Ohio recognizes Spring Severe Weather Week that our viewers know WKBN will have the most experienced meteorologist in the Valley leading Storm Team 27.”
Growing up in Columbiana County, Paul only ventured outside of the Valley to attend school at Mississippi State University for Meteorology and to be a part of a Storm Chasing Tour company that searched the Great Plains for tornados. After these endeavors, Paul was happy to return to his home to continue to do what he loves, analyzing the weather.
Paul Wetzl, WKBN Chief Meteorologist
“This area, this job, it’s a dream come true. It’s hard to follow in the footsteps of a legend like Don Guthrie, but the knowledge I gained working alongside him for more than a decade is immeasurable. I am truly honored,” said Wetzl.
Wetzl recently guided the team that redesigned the look of the weather segments during the station’s update of its on-air image. His goal was to create bolder and easier-to-understand computer graphics.
“Paul is a dedicated, passionate meteorologist, a Valley native with an undeniable love for what he does,” said WKBN-TV President/GM David Coy. “His ability and knowledge will be an asset to our viewers, bringing them a meaningful connection to the weather and being a true leader for WKBN’s Storm Team 27.”
Along with his duties on WKBN, Wetzl will also be the meteorologist on WKBN-TV’s sister station, FOX Youngstown, where he will deliver the weather weeknights during the Valley’s only hour-long 10PM newscast.
